Mindaugas Piečaitis was born in 1969. In 1987 he graduated from the M. K. Čiurlionis College of Arts in Vilnius, Lithuania and then entered the Lithuanian Music Academy. In 1993 Mindaugas Piečaitis received a diploma in choir conducting and in 1994 – a diploma in orchestra conducting. One year later, in 1995, he obtained a Master`s degree in symphony and opera conducting.
He was awarded third prize at the 1992 International Youth Choir Conductors` Competition in Tallinn, Estonia. The same year, Mindaugas Piečaitis had his conducting debut with a symphonic orchestra in Palanga, Lithuania. In 1994 he had his debut with the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater.
In 1996 he recorded a classical music CD. In 1997 he made a contemporary music recording of three symphonic pieces of the American composer M. Kupferman.
Mindaugas Piečaitis has often collaborated with modern Lithuanian composers both in recording and in performing their musical compositions. He conducted at the Young Performers` Festival Atžalynas, the New Music Festival Marių klavyrai, Jauna Muzika, Iš Arti, the Festival Percussion Days in Lithuania, Teatrai vaikams, Kaunas 98, the Modern Music Festival in Druskininkai, the Baltic Music Festival Gaida.
He has conducted the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, the Klaipėda Music Theater Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra Archi Vilnensis, the Vilnius Chamber Orchestra, the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater Orchestra and the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Ensemble Gaida, the Latvian State Choir Latvia, the Freiburg Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Reutlingen Symphony Orchestra.
Mindaugas Piečaitis has also toured with concerts in Italy, Spain, France, Germany and Portugal. During a tour in Holland he conducted performances, which included the participation of the Byelorussian National Ballet.
During the period 1994-1999 he was working as the second conductor for the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, as well as conducting various performances at the Lithuanian National Opera Theater, the Klaipėda and Kaunas Music Theaters. From 1998 he has been organizing and conducting symphonic concerts and educational symphony music performances for children.
From 2002 to 2005 he did his postgraduate conducting studies in contemporary music at the Karlsruhe High School of Music by prof. Peter Eötvös. In 2003 he participated in the New Music Festival Klangriffe in Karlsruhe and conducted performances in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart. In 2005 he conducted at the Kultur Am Rande festival in Reutlingen and was an active participant of the International Kurt Masur Conducting Course in Wroclaw.
Since 2006 Mindaugas Piečaitis has been collaborating with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra and the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, conducting projects for children and organizing performances by young performers. At the M. K. Čiurlionis College of Arts he led courses for young conductors and initiated the first performances of newly written young composers pieces.
He has held lectures at the International Music Education Conference in Vilnius as well as at the Klaipėda Music Academy. Mindaugas Piečaitis is the author of many arrangements for symphony and chamber orchestra and also children`s scores. He is co-author of the book Musical Child’s World, published in 2009 by the Vilnius publishing house Kronta.
